A pillar of the Vista community was lost on February 24th when Tony Altieri Sr. passed away. He was at his home in Vista surrounded by his wife, four sons, 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Tony was born on November 18th 1935 in Ravenna Ohio and graduated from Leuzinger High School in Los Angeles in 1953. He made the best decision of his life when he married his wife Helen in on June 16th, 1957. Tony and Helen were married for 62 years.
Tony and Helen moved their four sons to Vista in 1972 and immediately became entrenched in the community. He was a president and coach of booster clubs, Pop Warner, Little League, Pony League and various other youth organizations. Tony's passion was coaching where he had a positive impact on the lives of countless young athletes. Many of his former players remained lifelong friends.
Tony is survived by his wife Helen, two brothers Phil and Joe, four sons Tony Jr., Vince, Pete and John and all his grandchildren. The Altieri family will be holding a memorial service at 1:30 pm on Sunday, March 24th at the Vista Optimist Club. Contact <petea619@gmail.com
