Colleen “Betty” Elder 1927-2019

Colleen Ellen “Betty” Elder, 91, of Escondido, passed away January 14, 2019 at hospice. Born November 9, 1927 in San Diego, she was the daughter of the late George “Dick” Clarence Elder and Irma “Jewel” Jewel (Butler) Elder.

She was raised and educated in Julian and Indio and worked for the U.S. Postal Service for several years. After moving to Escondido in 1962, she was a loving caregiver to her parents as they aged. She was a lover of all kinds of animals, particularly cats and horses. She also enjoyed gardening and shopping at thrift stores. She was a good friend and “Aunt” to many people.

She is survived by brother Jack Elder of Silver City, NM; nieces Anne (Steve) Jolly of El Paso, TX, Erica McCallum of Tucson, AZ, Angela (Martin) Allred of St. David, AZ; nephew Michael (Kerry) Elder of Tucson, AZ; Vince Massey of Reno, NV; and numerous great-nieces and nephews.

She is also survived by her close family friends Sharon (Crawford) Johns, Brenda Crawford-Garcia and David  Crawford.  She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Richard Elder, and close family friend Hazel Crawford. She will be cremated in lieu of a funeral.
