Gregory L Baker, loving husband, devoted father, and decorated military veteran passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, September 24, 2018, at Methodist Hospital in Houston, TX. He is survived by his wife, Dr. Lorraine (Maneen) Baker; daughters (& sons-in-law) Dawn & Jon Alvarez and Jill & Jason Carpentieri; grandchildren Kayla Stultz, Scarlett & Sawyer Carpentieri; sisters (& brothers-in-law) Vicki & Eddie Howard, Susie & Roger Scott, and Terri Baker, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Greg was born November 8, 1945, in San Diego, CA, and graduated from Escondido High School in 1964. He went on to fly helicopters in the U.S. Army in Vietnam before graduating from the University of Washington. Greg spent 40 years working in the oil and gas industry, most recently working in Houston for Statoil, a Norwegian Energy Giant. Working in the energy business afforded Greg opportunities to traverse the globe, visiting and working in more than 100 countries. Greg was also an avid golfer, boating enthusiast, and talented chef — a skill he enjoyed sharing with family and friends.
Those lucky enough to know Greg remember him for his ever-steady focus in work, and warmth & hospitality in friendship. He always had a soft spot for his kids and grandkids — & even his pet dog, Biscotti. He remains forever in the hearts and minds of those who knew and loved him.
A Graveside Service was held Friday, October 12th at 1:00 PM at Oak Hill Cemetery, 2640 Glendridge Rd in Escondido, CA.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on November 10th at 1 PM at North Shore Church, 18501 West FM 1097, Montgomery, TX. A reception luncheon will follow immediately after this service.
