Jo Ann Waters was born in Ysleta, Texas, a suburb of El Paso, Texas on August 11, 1953 to Hayden and Johnnie Mae Waters. The youngest of three children, she had an older brother, James Waters and an older sister, Rose Mary Waters. She grew up in El Paso and graduated from Bel Air High school in 1970.
Jo Ann married Forrest Elston in 1972. They had their only child, the joy of her life, Brent W. Elston on September 23rd, 1975.
Jo’s first job was working as a secretary in a bank, and then as an appraisal specialist for a private company.
In 1989, at the age of 36, she decided that she needed to finish her education and earn a degree to further her career. She attended the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) while working part time and taking as many classes as she could. In 1996, she successfully graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Finance.
She would go on to work for the Ysleta Independent School District for five years. In 2001, missing her son Brent, she decided to move to San Diego to be near her son. Upon arriving in San Diego, she worked for a company in their accounting department. Joe eventually found her way to Poway and loved the area and the people she met here. Poway became her home.
Jo passed from this life to be with her heavenly Father on June 29, 2018. She was pre-deceased by her mother, Johnnie May Wynn, her father, Hayden Waters, and her beloved step-father, Thomas Wynn. She is survived by her cherished son and grandson, Brent W. Elston and Jaden Thomas Elston, her brother, James Waters and wife, Judi, her sister, Rose Mary McDonald and husband, Earl, her nephews, Matthew McDonald and wife Jill, James (Jamey) Waters and wife Kim and John Waters and wife Tracy, many great-nephews and great-nieces, and many friends and loved ones.
There is a passage that has stayed on our hearts: 1st Corinthians, Chapter 2, verses 9 and 10: “What no eye has seen, what no one has heard, and what no human mind has conceived….those are the things God has prepared for those who love Him.”
We can only imagine!
