Shawn Priest Obituary

Valley Center, CA- Shawn Tyler Priest, age 46, had his heavenly birthday on May 9, 2019. Shawn was part of the Superhero Relocation Program and settled in an adobe home with his family in Valley Center, CA where he maintained his secret identity as Mr. Incredible. He was known for his superhuman strength, ability to fix electronics, and stamina and skills in camping and backpacking.

Shawn grew up in the high desert of Lake Los Angeles and served a two year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Neuquen, Argentina where he lived in the Patagonia on the island of Tierra del Fuego. Shawn liked to make something out of nothing and was often swinging by the thrift store on his way home from work. His family was his pride and joy; his wife and three teenaged children. Tyler shares Shawn’s wit and sense of humor. Shawn taught Tyler and Cole how to fix and maintain cars and worked to keep the big, blue “Judge” running. Shawn was active with his boys in the Boy Scout program and he experienced the wilds of the Philmont Scout Ranch with Cole. Shawn embarked on yearly father/daughter backpacking trips with Addy where they have explored Catalina Island, Crystal Cove, and San Jacinto. The Priest family has traversed Big Sur, Yosemite, Yellowstone, Zion, Oahu, and more when not fighting crime or fixing computers.

Shawn loved his work as the Director of Technology for Element Education. At work, he was known for being a computer genius as well as for his kindness, love of music, and fancy rootbeer. Shawn loved books, Filippis pizza, action movies, and Calvin and Hobbes. On May 16, a “Family and Friends Reunion in Memory of Shawn Priest” was held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Valley Center. Family and friends wore Hawaiian or plaid shirts as they remembered Shawn’s sense of humor, legacy of love, and kindness. Shawn’s family then met that evening at Terra Mar in Carlsbad to eat In-N-Out burgers and visit at sunset.

He is survived by his equally incredible wife of 22.99 years, Ginny Lynn Zeugschmidt Priest, and their three incredible children Tyler Brentan (19 & serving a mission in Cebu East Philippines), James Colton “Cole”  (17), and Adelle Belen “Addy” (16). Shawn and Ginny were sealed for Time and All Eternity in the San Diego Temple in La Jolla (it looks like a princess castle.) Shawn’s children will carry on his legacy of sarcasm, a love of gadgets, and tropical apparel. Shawn is also survived by his incredible parents Wally and Heather Priest and brothers David (Natalie) and Josh (Josie) Priest of Arizona and in-laws Paul and Wendy Zeugschmidt along with many nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters in-law, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
