Sophia Rose Jones

Sophia Rose Jones passed away peacefully in her home with her loved ones at her bedside on October 14, 2019 in San Marcos, California. 

Sophie is leaving so many people who loved and cared for her daily.  She will be missed dearly by her father, Tyler Jones; stepmother, Emily Jones; mother, Rachel Jones; and siblings, Lila Jones, Logan Moore, and Gavin Moore.  Sophie is survived by an extended family of teachers, therapists, nurses and friends who were her arms, legs and voice. 

Sophie was born on September 3, 2008 in Los Angeles, California. As a baby, Sophie was fun-loving and smart. She would light up the room with her beautiful face and low raspy voice. Sophie loved to laugh, eat adventurous foods and sing. At eighteen months old she suffered a terrible tragedy with a near-drowning.  She chose to come back to us and live ten more years with a broken body. She was brave and showed fierce strength in the face of life’s challenges. Sophie suffered pain and muscle spasms every day with grace and positivity. Her beautiful smile and darling personality made us all more compassionate and patient. Sophie was a master of making friends and despite her disabilities attracted way too many boyfriends. She loved school, except for math, with a particular love of recess and adaptive physical education. Her loving heart and sense of humor charmed her nurses and teachers. In the last week of her life Sophie used her communications device to express her love and thanks to those around her. She was cuddled to the end by all those who loved her.

A celebration of Sophie’s life will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 1444 Lake Drive, Cardiff By the Sea, CA 92007. The viewing will start at 10:00 am followed by a service at 11:00 am. A graveside service will be held on Monday, October 21 at 2:00 pm at Eastlawn Memorial Hill in Provo, Utah.

A second memorial service for Sophie will be held at Harvest Christian Fellowship Church at 6115 Arlington Avenue, Riverside, CA 92506 in the next few weeks. This service will also be live-streamed. Please contact the church office after October 24th for service details at 951-687-6902.
