Amelia Cam Diaz, age 98, departed this world on Friday, March 20, 2020. She was born on November 5, 1921 in Lima, Peru, the second of five children to Roberto and Margarita Cam (Diaz). As a young woman, her family moved to China where she met and married her husband Woo Sai Ching. After the war, she returned to Lima where she worked as an optometrist while raising three sons. In 1980, she emigrated to the United States and settled in San Diego, where she would spend the next forty years.
Amelia was a devoted mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt. She loved nothing more than spending time with her family. She was a great cook and would often ask “have you eaten?” This was her way of saying “I love you.” Throughout her life, Amelia inspired others with her optimistic attitude. Her philosophy was to always move forward, “like water in the river.” Her memory will live in our hearts forever.
She is survived by her three sons and daughters-in-law; Willie (Debbie), Raymond (Kelly), and Stanley (Rebecca); grandchildren Michael, Willie Jr. (Christa), Adrian, Stanley Jr., and Sarah; and great-grandchildren Conner, Noah, and Bailee. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, her memorial mass will be postponed until we can all gather together safely.
