Bernard “Ben” Thomas Fastiggi, of San Diego, California, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2026, at the age of 95.
Bernard was born on August 2, 1930, in Calitri, Italy, to Michael and Antonietta Fastiggi. He later immigrated to the United States, where he proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1951 through 1953, during the Korean War.
Bernard grew up in Mt Vernon, NY with his two sisters Mary and Lucy. He was the first college graduate from an Italian immigrant family and earned his bachelor’s degree from Iona University and went on to complete a master’s degree in business from the Baruch College - City University of New York. He moved his family to California in 1977 to pursue an opportunity in the Los Angeles entertainment industry. He enjoyed a successful 40+ year career as an executive across several industries, including advertising, entertainment, and healthcare.
In retirement, Bernard devoted himself to his passion for organic farming in Ramona CA. He took great pride in cultivating his own property, which was home to hundreds of avocado trees, and he remained deeply engaged in the local agricultural community. He served on the Ramona Agricultural Board for many years and was an active member of the Sons of Italy. Bernard was also a steadfast supporter of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the Irish Christian Brothers.
Ben cherished life’s simple yet meaningful pleasures: surf casting along the coast, reading and spirited discussions of intellectual ideas, and offering thoughtful life advice to his nieces, nephews, and family friends. Ben took up jogging in his 50’s and he jogged well into his 90s, embodying his fiercely independent spirit. He had a deep appreciation for pigeons, which reflected many of his own ideals of loyalty, intelligence, and a connection to nature. Ben proudly celebrated Italian culture, honoring his heritage, and embraced Irish traditions in tribute to his wife, Anne Marie. Above all else, Bernard’s greatest joy was his family, especially his grandchildren, whom he adored.
Bernard was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Anne Marie Fastiggi. He is survived by his five children: Dawn Fastiggi (the late Ken Doroski), David Fastiggi(Kimberly), Mary Anne Kremicki (Jeff), Michelle Marquand (Brent), and Elizabeth Fastiggi. He was the proud grandfather of eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Bernard lived a wonderful life, rich in family, education, intellect, service, and
experience. A life truly lived as La Bella Vita.
