Bernie Wood Hanley

     Bernie Wood Hanley died peacefully May 30, 2021 at the age of 81. She was born December 18, 1939 in Blountstown Florida where she graduated BHS and attended FSU.  She was working and living in Jacksonville when she met Robert Hanley. They fell in love and were married in September 1961. They moved to San Diego shortly afterwards when the Navy transferred Bob to San Diego.

     Bernie lived in San Diego for nearly 60 years. She had a long and varied career working for the County of San Diego for over 35 years before retiring to enjoy life.  She enjoyed spending time with family and friends and sharing her love, humor and advice as needed.  As her daughters became adults, she was more than their mom, she was their best friend and confidant.  She also enjoyed trying her luck at the local casinos. 

    She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Robert Hanley, her parents Woodrow Houston Taylor and Bernice Marie Smith Taylor, and two brothers David Hagood “Tinker” Taylor and William Houston “Shorty” Taylor.  Bernie is survived by her daughters Erica Hanley of San Diego and Stephany Hanley of Escondido, Her sister Annie Lou (Jack) Gregory and their son Adan , her aunt Minnie Joy Maples and many more family members and friends.

     As Bernie Wood aka “ B Dub”, one of the most caring and intelligent women to ever grace our planet, would say  “ It is what it is.”.

     Services will be private. A celebration of her life will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to The American Heart Association, your local Humane Society, or a charity of your choosing.
