Brian David Elliston, 46, of Carlsbad, California, passed away serenely at home on March 1, 2025, surrounded by family and friends after a brief illness.
Born on October 1, 1978, Brian grew up in Burney, California, where he developed a love for the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, water skiing, wakeboarding, snowboarding, golfing, playing basketball and spending time at the beach. A dedicated sports fan, he remained loyal to his Raiders through every season and loved attending Padres games. Brian also cherished the moments he spent relaxing with his beloved dog, Hannah, whom he often called his best friend.
Brian had an incredible ability to connect with people, making friends wherever he went. His sense of humor, compassion, and unwavering loyalty made him someone you could always count on. To know Brian was to have a friend for life—one who would do anything for those he cared about.
Following in his father’s footsteps, Brian pursued a career in carpentry and construction, eventually earning his contractor’s license. His work took him from Burney to Sacramento, Santa Cruz, Hawaii, and finally to Carlsbad. He later worked as a maintenance manager and facilities director at a resort in Carlsbad, where he formed many close friendships. Brian always took immense pride in his work.
Brian was preceded in death by his parents, David Elliston and Shirley McKinney. He is survived by his sister, Erin Penn, and brother-in-law, Philip Penn; his nephew, Joshua Elliston; and his stepfather, Mark McKinney.
Brian will be laid to rest in Santa Cruz, California. A Celebration of Life will be held in Carlsbad, California, on May 3, 2025, to honor his memory and the countless lives he touched.
