Obituary

Carol Lee Bessone passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 5, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.  Carol was born on May 13, 1940 to Lucille Sgobassi and George Woollet Sr., in San Diego.  A lifelong San Diegan, she loved her city, and it's where she met and married John Michael Bessone, Sr. They had 44 years together before John’s passing in 2009.

She is survived by her eight children, Regina Hartman, Ronald Reiner, Ken Reiner, Jeff Reiner, John Bessone, Renee Bessone, Robert Bessone, and Bev Vale; 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; siblings, Bobbie Stewart, Marlene Weber, and George Woollett.

Carol was a woman who touched the lives of all those she came into contact with. She was a selfless and gregarious person, full of positive energy and a bright light in the lives of those around her. With a witty sense of humor and a great love for people, Carol was always up for a conversation and was known as the best listener and advice giver. She had a special talent for knowing exactly who she needed to be for each person in her life, and her kind and caring nature made her a savior and lifeline to many.

Carol was a devoted mother and grandmother, and her love for her family knew no bounds. She was also deeply religious, with a great love for God and an active involvement in her church, Our Lady of Grace, where she served as a Catechism teacher and Eucharist minister. In addition to her love for her family and faith, Carol had a passion for traveling and experiencing new cultures. She was a world traveler, visiting countless countries throughout her lifetime.

Carol was also an avid cook and loved entertaining friends and family in her home.  She had deep friendships and many social circles. You could always catch her with the aerobic ladies jazzercising during the week.  In addition to her personal pursuits, Carol was also dedicated to charitable causes and made a positive impact on her community through her selfless acts of service.

Though she will be greatly missed, Carol's spirit lives on in the hearts of those she left behind. We trust that she will always be with us, watching over and guiding us as we navigate this world without her physical presence. Carol Lee Bessone was a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day, and her light will continue to shine on in the lives of those she loved.
