Dan Frederick Wiberg, a cherished long-time resident of the Poway and Rancho Bernardo
communities, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2025. Born on April 26, 1943, in Chicago,
Illinois, to the late Vernon and Helen Wiberg, Dan spent his formative years in Des Plaines,
Illinois, where he cultivated friendships that would last a lifetime.
Dan graduated from Main West High School in Des Plaines before pursuing higher education at
Knox College and later Illinois University, where he earned his bachelor's degree in 1965.
Demonstrating a commitment to service, he served in the US Naval Reserves in 1966. His
pursuit of knowledge continued, culminating in an MBA from Columbia University in 1968.
Shortly after completing his graduate studies, Dan embarked on his professional career as the
Sales Manager for Time/Life in Indianapolis. However, a memorable winter vacation to San
Diego to visit his parents proved to be a turning point. Captivated by the California sunshine, he
swiftly made the move west, establishing his roots in the welcoming Poway and Rancho
Bernardo area of San Diego County.
Deeply invested in his community, Dan dedicated his time and energy to various initiatives. He
actively participated in Poway Youth Sports, Health Data Bank, and the development of Valle
Verde Park. His engagement extended to discussions surrounding rent control, the Tea Party
movement, Common Core education standards, and immigration policies, reflecting his
unwavering commitment to contributing to community improvements and safeguarding
individual freedoms.
Dan is lovingly remembered by his wife, Norma Nelson-Wiberg; his son and daughter-in-law,
