Don Raymond Mullins

April 18, 1931 ~ September 1, 2021 (age 90)

Don Raymond Mullins, 90, of Poway, California, passed away on September 1, 2021.

He was born to parents Sanford and Helen Mullins, on April 18, 1931, in Hermosa Beach, California.  Don graduated from El Segundo High School in 1948, where he was a member of the CIF Champion Water Polo and Swimming teams during his senior year.  Following high school, Don enlisted and served honorably in the US Coast Guard.  After military service, he went on to receive a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Hawaii (1957).

After college, Don began a career as a business manager at TRW (Northrop Grumman) in Redondo Beach, California.  During this time, he resided in El Segundo with his first wife, Ardeth Bentjen, and their three sons, Ray, Craig, and Gary.  In 1983, he moved to San Diego County with his second wife, Peggy Barnard, where he concluded his 30+ years at TRW and began retirement together with Peggy.

In retirement, Don found fulfillment in actively serving his community.  He volunteered with the Trauma Intervention Program (TIP) of San Diego, the SDPD Retired Senior Volunteer Patrol (RSVP), and was a Court-Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for foster children.  He and Peggy also enjoyed traveling the world together and spending time with their many friends and loved ones in San Diego.

Don is survived by sons Craig (Kellie) Mullins and Gary Mullins, both of El Segundo; daughter Jeanette (Neil) Kaufman of Los Angeles; and four grandchildren – Jordan Mullins, Jamie Mullins, Dalia Kaufman, and Cora Kaufman.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Mullins; son, Ray Mullins; parents, Sanford and Helen Mullins; and brother, Sanford (Jack) Mullins.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in San Diego, California.
