Eleanor Jeanne Crispin, beloved mother, wife, sister, aunt, great-aunt, and friend, left this world October 8, 2023 five days following her 93rd birthday. Jeanne lightened the spirit of those who knew her, with her playful sense of humor, warmth, and wit.
She fondly told tales of growing up on her parents’ onion farm in Grant, MI, with her two older sisters and twin brothers. After high school Jeanne was mail clerk at American Seating Company in Grand Rapids. There she met her husband who survives her, Lawrence Crispin, and soon after moved to Sparta MI where they raised two daughters, Susan (deceased) and Sherri Crispin, later relocating to Montana in 2009, then San Diego in 2012.
Jeanne loved people and loved to laugh. She had deep affection for classical music, opera, and the natural world. She loved reporting on winged wildlife visiting her backyard - doves, ravens, hawks, and white herons. It was all breathtaking to her, and a source of wonder. She would often say, about a wildflower, a sunset, or a full moon — “Oh, isn’t that beautiful.”
A memorial service will be held in November, details forthcoming.
In lieu of flowers and in honor of Jeanne’s love for animal rescue, memorials are suggested to the United States Humane Society through their website:
