Eleanor Diehl Obituary

Eleanor Ann Diehl passed away peacefully to be with our Lord on March 18, 2023 at the age of 89. Her family is deeply saddened by her sudden death. Her husband recently passed away on January 2, 2023 at the age of 90. Eleanor is survived by her four children; Andrea Diehl Woodruff (husband Brian Woodrutf) in Yucaipa; Karen Diehl-Bringas in San Diego; Thomas E. Diehl (wife Kristen Diehl) in San Diego; and Julie Yockey, in Washington. She has 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Eleanor, an only child, was born on February 7, 1934 in Passaic, New Jersey to parents Julia and Andrew Steidl. She attended Clifton High School and met her husband, Thomas Diehl, the love of her life" in 1951 at a community pool in Clifton, New Jersey.

Eleanor was married to Thomas on April 25, 1954. In their early married life they resided in Clifton, New Jersey and Thomas was in the Navy. After serving in the Navy his career was in real estate and finance. Thomas saw an ad in the New York newspaper in 1962 for a finance position in California and they ultimately decided to move their family to California.

Eleanor and Thomas lived in San Diego where they raised their children, becoming part of the community and attending church activities at Our Mother of Confidence Catholic Church. Eleanor loved living in San Diego and was involved in the activities of her children throughout their schooling years and volunteered at the church.

Eleanor received her AA degree in business and worked part-time for the American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers where she was able to travel and oversee appraisal school activities. She also worked at a children's boutique in La Jolla.

Thomas and Eleanor retired in Escondido and Eleanor's deep Catholic faith continued at San Rafael Parish. She belonged to the The Ladies' Guild and the San Rafael Women's Fellowship, an organization of Catholic women. Eleanor's love of travel included several trips with the San Rafael church to Europe and over 25 cruises with her husband. Eleanor had many creative talents including sewing, knitting, and crocheting and donated hand-made blankets to organizations. Her husband, Thomas, adored her and together they imparted to their children and their families, integrity, loyalty, compassion, and the love of travel. Eleanor's greatest joys in life were her husband, Thomas, and her four children, Andrea, Karen, Tommy, and Julie and their families. She will be remembered for her beautiful blue eyes that sparkled with love. She will be always in our hearts.
