Genene Latta Morton...farm girl from McDonald, Kansas turned to officer’s wife to mom to grandma to great grandma. As Genene often said, “I’ve lived the most wonderful life.” Genene left the farm to begin her adventure. She spent a year at Kansas State before moving to Denver to work at Lowry Air Force Base. It is here that she soon met Russ, the first love of her life, at the Officer’s Club. Six months later she became his wife. During the next seven years, between many military moves, she gave birth to the next loves of her life: Stephanie, Lee, and Craig. During her time as an Air Force Officer’s wife, she demonstrated her innate ability to cope in any situation: military moves around the world, being a “single parent” during unaccompanied deployments and taking on the leadership role as a base commander’s wife, all with a huge smile on her face. Upon retirement, she and Russ, settled in San Diego in 1977. During the next 44 years, she continued to enjoy being be a world traveler, this time for pure pleasure, socializing with her many friends and playing bridge. But for her, her greatest pleasure were her next loves of her life: grandchildren and great grandchildren. She filled their lives with hugs, kisses and smiles and as her oldest great grandchild said, “ she was so, so, so nice”.
