George Jordan Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of George Jordan, aged 85, on December 2, 2024, in San Diego, California, surrounded by his family.

George was born on October 16, 1939, in Hammond, Louisiana and raised by his aunt and uncle, Herman and Katherine Bignar.  George joined the U.S. Navy in August 1958 where he quickly earned the rank of Chief.  He served during the Vietnam War, earning a National Defense Service Medal, several Good Conduct Medals, a Vietnam Campaign Medal, and a Vietnam Service Medal.

Soon after joining the Navy, George was stationed in Yokosuka, Japan, where he met Atsuko - the love of his life for 62 years. Despite his initial hesitation to live overseas as a young man, he quickly learned to love Japan, its people, and the culture.

George was genuinely a man who never met a stranger and was always quick to help others. George loved a good pun and his laugh was contagious. He was also a singer of silly songs and a whistler of happy tunes! He was known for his kindness, generosity, and devotion to his family and friends. He touched the lives of all who knew him, and his contributions will never be forgotten.

George was a devoted member of the Masonic Lodge, earning the title of Worshipful Master due to his high proficiency and knowledge of Masonic principles, virtues, rituals, and leadership skills. He was a beloved leader, mentor, and dedicated servant to the Masonic fraternity, leaving behind a legacy of wisdom, integrity, and brotherly love.

George leaves behind his loving wife, Atsuko, and his daughters Naomi Giuliano (Daniel), Nicole Elliott (Lawrence), his granddaughter Natalie, and two grandsons, Jake and Nicholas.

He was a brother to Sylvia Wilson (Nelson) and Barbara Ann Owens (Max) and the late Lillian Barnes, J.W. Jordan, Huey Jordan, and Annie Dugas. He is also survived by many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

George will be deeply missed by his family and by his brothers in Masonry and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 16th, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at the Miramar Chapel, 5702 Bauer Road, Building 5632, MCAS Miramar, California.
