Hazel Arline Obituary

Hazel Launa Arline, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and trailblazer, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2024, at the age of 95. Born on August 24, 1929, in Bainbridge, Georgia, to Coy and Mary Martin, Hazel exemplified the grace, strength, and determination of a true Southern lady.

Growing up during the Great Depression, Hazel’s resilience and ingenuity shaped her life. A beauty queen in her youth, she broke barriers as a successful entrepreneur and one of the pioneering women in the field of computer programming. Her remarkable journey continued when she married Thomas Earle Arline, whose career in the U.S. Navy took them across the country before they settled in San Diego in 1959.

While Hazel’s professional achievements were significant, her greatest joy and legacy was her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Earle, and her beloved son, Thomas Earle Arline Jr. Hazel is survived by her daughter, Mary Anne Mease of Poway, and daughter-in-law, Amy Arline of Tennessee. She was a proud grandmother to Heather Nichols of New York, Julie Thompson (husband Kevin) of England, Christopher Arline of Tennessee, and Adam Arline (wife Meagan) of Virginia, and a cherished great-grandmother to nine great-grandchildren.

Hazel’s life was a testament to determination, love, and family. Her strength, elegance, and enduring spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her. A service will be held to honor her remarkable life at Dearborn Memorial Park at 10:30 am Friday December 6th. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a charity of your choice in Hazel’s memory.
