James E. Carnicom, of San Diego, California, went home to the Lord on December 13, 2025, in Poway. Born on July 31, 1948, in Waltham, Massachusetts, Jim was the beloved son of LCDR Francis E. Carnicom, USN (ret.), and Kathleen Carnicom.
Jim grew up in a Navy family and made San Diego his home, graduating from Clairemont High School before earning his degree in social science from San Diego State University in 1971. During his college years, he embraced campus life fully ~ joining a fraternity, running on the track team, and actively participating in Campus Crusade for Christ and the YMCA.
He went on to build a long and successful career in graphic arts and sales. Jim worked for Mayer Reprographics in San Diego and later became a top sales representative for Xerox in North Augusta, South Carolina.
A proud and passionate Boston Red Sox fan, Jim also had a deep love for travel and American history. His journeys took him around the world, but his favorite place remained Williamsburg, Virginia, where he felt especially connected to the past he admired so much.
Jim’s faith was the foundation of his life. He was baptized at Lake Tahoe, studied for two semesters at Florida Bible College, and maintained an active ministry in San Diego. His devotion to Christ shaped his character, his relationships, and the kindness he extended to others.
Jim is survived by his brothers CAPT Gene E. Carnicom, Clifford E. Carnicom, Frank E. Carnicom, and Ralph Bishop; his sisters‑in‑law RADM Clare Helminiak, Carol Carnicom, and Lynn Bishop; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins who will remember him with love.
A Celebration of Life is planned for Spring 2026.
