Jarend Paul Jones, 36, was a man whose life was defined by love—love for his children, his family, his friends, and the game of baseball that shaped so much of who he was. Jarend grew up in Poway, California, where he was raised by his mother, Shannon Jones, and his grandmother, Pam Jones, who both played an important role in shaping the man he became.
Jarend is survived by his two beloved children, Jackson (“Jackie”) and Emerson (“Emmie”), and their mother, Stephanie Jones, along with their family dog, Chipper.
From the time he was just two years old, Jarend developed a love for baseball that stayed with him throughout his life. He began playing in Poway Little League, where his passion and natural talent for the game quickly became clear. As he grew older, he continued playing with the Poway Flame and later for Poway High School, where baseball remained a central part of his life and identity. His love of the game carried into adulthood, when he continued playing at Palomar College in San Marcos. Baseball was more than a sport to Jarend—it was a passion that helped shape who he was and connected him to countless friendships and relationships over the years. He played the game effortlessly and with incredible talent, and the community he built through baseball meant the world to him.
While baseball grounded Jarend and brought him great joy, nothing compared to the joy he found in being a father and spending time with his children. He loved taking Emmie and Jackie to the park, watching them grow, and seeing the world through their eyes. He enjoyed spending hours outside, whether it was playing games, exploring nature, or cheering on Jackie and Emmie as they played sports. These simple, joyful moments were some of the happiest of his life.
Jarend moved from San Diego to Rancho Cucamonga, where he and Stephanie began building their family together. There, he continued his involvement in baseball by coaching for multiple different baseball organizations in the community. Through coaching, Jarend formed meaningful relationships with players and families while mentoring young athletes and passing on his love of the game. One of his greatest privileges was sharing his love of baseball with his son, Jackie. Jarend coached many players over the years, but his favorite player to coach was always his own son.
Jarend also worked as a teacher’s aide, where his gentle spirit and natural kindness made a lasting impact on the students he worked with. He had a rare ability to make people feel truly seen and valued. Those who worked alongside him often spoke of the warmth he brought into every room and the sincere care he showed to everyone he met.
Outside of baseball, Jarend loved being outdoors. He enjoyed golfing, camping, backpacking, fishing, and playing pickleball—always happiest when he was surrounded by nature, friends, and family. And if you knew Jarend, you also knew his love and committed support for the Kansas City Chiefs, a team he proudly cheered for every season.
Above all else, Jarend will be remembered for his heart. He was a devoted father, a loving son and grandson, a proud brother and uncle, and a loyal friend to many. His kindness, warmth, and genuine spirit touched countless lives. He had a gift for bringing people together and making them feel loved, accepted, and important.
Though his time with us was far too short, the love Jarend shared will live on in the hearts of his children, his family, and everyone fortunate enough to know him. His memory will continue to shine through the lives he touched, the lessons he passed on, and the love he gave so freely.
He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
