John Edward Workman passed away at the age of 95 on September 11,2024 in San Diego, California following an extended illness. He was born on June 6,1929 in Muskegon, Michigan to John and Angie (Medema) Workman. Following graduation from Muskegon Heights High School, John attended Hope College in Holland, Michigan where he met his wife, Lois, and was a member of the Fraternal Society. Upon graduation in 1951, he attended the University of Michigan where he earned an MBA in 1953. He joined DeBruyn Produce Company in 1953 where he was a produce broker and partner until his retirement in 1989. For many years, he served as a board member of the Michigan Celery Promotion Cooperative and was a member of the Holland Rotary Club. Following retirement, John enjoyed travelling with Lois, playing golf and wintering in San Diego near his daughter, son-in-law and grandsons. He was a member of Christ Memorial Church in Holland, Michigan.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Lois; daughter, Mary (Thomas) Koning of Poway, California; grandsons, Thomas (Alexandra) Koning II of Walnut Creek, California; John Koning of San Diego, California and Peter Koning of Poway, California. A memorial service and internment will be at Rancho Bernardo Community Presbyterian Church in San Diego, California.
