Laura Barrett Kent Wentzell passed away on December 13, 2022 at her home in Rancho Santa Fe, CA. “Barrie” lived in the San Diego area for over 50 years after having graduated from Baton Rouge High School and Louisiana State University. She lived a vibrant life, traveling the world, engaged in fund-raising work for foundations and charities such as the American Diabetes Association and Children’s Home Society of California. She loved music, good books, gourmet cooking and had a passion for the creative design of beautiful living spaces. Her energy and enthusiasm for life drew in all who knew her, a consummate hostess and conversationalist, she made people feel welcome and was “at home” within any setting. Barrie was preceded in death by her father, H.K. Kent, and her mother, Laura Kent.
She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Fern Wentzell and their two children, Erin Achartz and Barrett Ketcham Yohanan, husband, Tom and three grandchildren, Madison, Max and Isabella; and her brother, Gerry Kent and Partner, Gloria Weathers and sister, Elaine Taylor and husband, Jim. Special gratitude for the decades of support from Enriqueta Miralrio and to caregiver, Jessica Martz. On January 7, there will be a Memorial Service at 2:00 pm at the Village Church in Rancho Santa Fe with Rev. Jack Baca and a Louisiana service on January 14, at Charlet Funeral Home in Zachary followed by a Celebration of Life at the home of Mike and Ginger Kent.
