Lenh Born Obituary

Lenh N. Born

April 11, 1947 - August 24, 2024 (age 77)

Lenh N. Born, age 77, of Ramona, passed away from Multiple Myeloma Cancer on August 24, 2024. She was born in Vietnam on April 11, 1947 to Pho Tac Lenh and Sy Lau.

When she was only 5 years old, she began working in her mother’s tailoring shop. Her chin just barely touched the sewing machine, and she stood up in order to operate the foot pedal. As a fourteen-year-old, she left home and went to trade school in Saigon to study fashion design and tailoring. During the Vietnam War, she got a job on the American Base. She used her paychecks to help repair and add on to her modest family home, so that her family could earn rent money. She always rode around on her moped and enjoyed the 55 miles per gallon she got out of it!

When she came to America in her mid-twenties, she continued to sew in a factory, alongside her sister. She moved on to waitressing in restaurants, and eventually worked her way up to being a co-owner of a Chinese restaurant in Poway, called Seng Yen. After years of operating the business, Lenh and her sister sold this restaurant and opened up another one called Golden Bowl, located in Solana Beach. Lenh loved chatting with the customers that came into the restaurant. She would often sit down at their booth and socialize with them about horse racing, real estate, politics, and stocks. She loved getting to know the families that would come in.  After several years of serving customers, they closed the Golden Bowl. Her sister decided to take over Del Mar Tailoring. Lenh went back to her roots of sewing and assisted her sister with the tailoring business until she personally retired.

As a retiree, Lenh loved to tend to her garden. She particularly took tender care of her red roses and the guava tree that her mother gave her. She also loved going to Zion Supermarket, watching football and the stock market on tv, feeding her chickens, and playing poker.

Lenh is survived by her daughter Janetta Pickering and her husband Edward, her mother Sy Lau, her brother Kenneth Lynn, her sister Sue Gin, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Bill Ling.

A Memorial Service to honor Lenh’s life will be held on Saturday, September 21st at Living Way Church,13609 Twin Peaks Rd, Poway, CA 92064. Services will start at 11:00am with a reception immediately afterwards.
