It is with heavy hearts that we share that Marilyn Sue Benter passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, Jan 31st, 2025. Sue was born in Pueblo Colorado on June 22nd, 1947, to Josephine and Joseph Frie. Sue was the 2nd oldest of 5 siblings. When she was 15 yrs old she volunteered at St. Mary Corwin Hospital as a polka dot girl and started working in the electrocardiogram department. She soon became a technician in the electroencephalogram department after the hospital provided training at Baylor University in Houston Texas.
Sue later joined her family in Aspen when she was in her early twenties where she worked as a tech at the ASPEN Clinic. She was very athletic, and enjoyed skiing, snowmobiling, hiking and camping.
Seeking sunny weather Sue moved to San Diego. She began working in commercial real estate and then found her “passion in fashion” at Nordstroms where she excelled as a personal stylist and was eventually promoted to department manager because of her natural sense of style. While in San Diego she met the love of her life and future husband, Harry Benter. Sue ultimately retired from fashion, dedicated to support Harry’s career and family, a full-time job. Together Sue and Harry lived a full life of travel, entertaining, working, going to church and enjoying time with family.
Sue loved nothing more than being Auntie Sue or Nana Sue and is truly missed by those nieces/nephews, cousins, grandchildren and great grandchildren. In recent years she most valued her times with family, friends and her prayer groups where she found much love and support. Her Bible study and time as a volunteer grief counselor was especially rewarding to her. “SueBee” has left a great void in all our hearts, but we are comforted knowing she is with our Lord. May her memory be eternal!
Sue is survived by her husband of 42 years Harry, her stepchildren Brad (Gigi) & Kim (Jim), her siblings Beverly, Bobby and Doug, and is now reunited with her beloved Monica, Mom, & Chris, along with other cherished family & friends who predeceased her. A Celebration of her life will be on February 20th, at 2pm at the Emmanuel Faith Community Church, 639 E 17th Ave, Escondido, CA 92025, 760-745-2541. There will be a reception immediately following at the church. To share memories online, please go to www.cafuneralt.com.
