Marilyn Kay Wood (Moore) was born 5/23/1934 in Maryville, Missouri, and passed away 9/18/2024 in Escondido, California. She was 90 years old. Marilyn was the only daughter of Gracie and Marvin Moore. She had one brother, Lionel Moore, who was 2 years older and preceded her in death in 2018. While still very young, her parents moved the family west to Newport Heights, CA, and then eventually to Escondido, CA, where they settled.
Marilyn married shortly after graduating from Escondido High School in 1952, became a homemaker, and raised 5 children: James, Carl, Leanne, Steven, and Melanie. She loved to putter in her garden, bake, read, take walks, listen to music orchestrated by André Rieu and attend his live concerts, and loved watching ice skating and went to Stars on Ice annually for many years. When her children were growing up, she took up a home yoga practice and was often a swim instructor to neighborhood kids and their moms during the summers. Marilyn worked for the San Diego County Department of Social Services for many years doing administrative reception and client intake. After retiring, Marilyn followed her interest in local history and historic homes, and she became a docent for several years at the Heritage Walk in Escondido’s Grape Day Park, giving tours of the historic Victorian house. Marilyn is survived by her children, their spouses, respectively, and several grandchildren. A special thank you to Redwood Terrace for the gracious, kind, and wonderful care they showed our mom during the last years of her life.
On Friday, October 11, 2024, at 11:30 a.m., a service to celebrate her life will be held graveside at Oak Hill Memorial Park Cemetery, 2640 Glenridge Road, Escondido, CA 92027. All who knew and loved our mother are welcome to attend.
