Marlow Gibby Obituary

              Marlow David Gibby was born June 14,1931 in Blackfoot Idaho. He was the third child born to David Edgar and Olive Elvia Gibby. He had 6 brothers and 1 sister. He was raised on a farm and in the Family General store, where he learned hard work, patience, and perseverance. After a devastating fire and effects of the Great Depression on their family finances the family moved to Roseburg Oregon, where Marlow studied and excelled in boxing and science studies. After graduation from Roseburg High School, he worked for Safeway grocery store to earn money for college. He was bound for Parks Air College, but he met his life sweetheart upon entering college at BYU where he was a lieutenant in the Air Force ROTC.

               He married Donna Dean Kitchin in March 1951 in the Salt Lake Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Temple. They raised their 8 children (6 girls and 2 boys) between Provo and Vernal Utah, then moved the family to California where they enjoyed homes in Linda Vista, Poway, and San Diego. He was certified in Regional Occupational building trades program, taught drivers’ education to high school students, earned a BS in Physics (specializing in astronomy), at BYU in Provo, Utah. He earned a master’s degree vin Secondary Education Administration from San Diego State University. In the summers he built homes and did various other building jobs.

                He was called to the first branch presidency of Poway in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where he was a ward and stake missionary, he served a stake mission in the San Diego Naval Mission, and as an ordinance worker in the San Diego Temple and various other leadership positions. 

               He was a devoted husband and father who helped raise and nurture his 3 children that included an Indian placement boy, family, friend, foreign exchange students and missionaries for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He and his family aided in the construction of the Pomerado chapel (the first ward chapel in Poway California) for the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

               He is survived by four brothers, 7 children, 41 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren. He died at home with family surrounding him at the age of 93 years old.
