Max Eldrid Harrison

Max “Bob” Eldrid Harrison passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family and friends, on February 17, 2022, at the age of 90. He was born at home in Beebe, Arkansas on December 06, 1931, to Helen and Dewitt Harrison. Max married Shirley Lee Hildreth in 1954. They raised four children and enjoyed sixty-one years of marriage.

Max will be remembered as a kind and humorous man that loved people. He was a sixty-year resident of Poway, California, and his door was always open for a good conversation and a cup of coffee.

While stationed in San Diego after the Korean War, he met his future wife Shirley.  After leaving the Navy, they moved back to Arkansas briefly, where he worked as an insurance salesman and then returned to San Diego to take a job with General Dynamics. He attended Palomar College to study mathematics, and over the years worked for several different companies, including Steam Power Systems, BorgWarner, Lockheed Martin, and eventually retired from General Dynamics Space Division in 1993. He enjoyed his retirement and took up his love of building things and working with wood. He focused his time on his family and friends and could often be found sitting on a swing in his front yard. This became a meeting place for neighbors to just stop by.

He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley Harrison in 2016, father Dewitt Harrison (1956),  mother Helen Harrison (2005), brother Burnette Harrison (2007), brother Donald Ray Harrison (2013), and his grandson Daniel Lee McDowell Jr. (2017).

He is survived by his son Steve (Amy) Harrison, his daughters Karen Hards, Robin (Scott) Cook, Jennifer (Paul Cavanaugh) Irwin, and ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at the Community Church of Poway where he was a member:

The service will be in the main Sanctuary on March 26, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. with a reception in Fellowship Hall immediately following. A private burial will be held at Miramar National Cemetery, San Diego, CA.
