Mieko (Mimi) Statham passed away quietly at the age of 91 on Monday September 19, 2022.
Mieko was born March 3, 1931, in Shimizu Japan, and was the oldest of 6 sisters. In 1952 Mieko immigrated to the United States.
Mieko and her husband Elmer raised two children Mona and Patrick, and during a majority this time Elmer was deployed out to sea on naval aircraft carriers as a career Navy man. While he was deployed Mieko had the sole responsibility of raising and caring for her children, home, and personal business in a sometimes unfamiliar culture. Mieko was very lucky to have wonderful neighbors on Powers Rd in Poway.
Mieko and her husband enjoyed traveling and camping, bowling in several leagues, she was a talented artist, she played bridge on a master level, and during her later years she especially enjoyed her dogs Joey and Chibi.
During their marriage they were fortunate to be stationed twice in Japan (Sasebo and Yokosuka) which allowed Mieko an opportunity to spend long periods of time with her family.
Mieko was preceded in death by her husband Elmer Royce Statham, and grandson Todd Michael Wraight. She is survived by her daughter Mona Randel, son Patrick Statham, grandchildren Scott, Elizabeth, Channing, Michael, Andrew, great grandsons Gavin and Austin, and sisters Atsuko, Yasue, Hiroko, and Akiko.
