Monica Yee Obituary

Monica Yee passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on April 24, 2025.  Born in China and raised in vibrant Hong Kong, she was the beloved youngest daughter of eight children.  Her early years were marked by a rich cultural heritage and a quiet determination that would define her life.

Monica’s life was one of courageous exploration and transformation.  After immigrating to the United States, Arizona became her first home before she ventured to work in Vancouver, Canada.  A true pioneer, she earned her degree in medical microbiology during the 1950s—a time when very few women pursued careers in the life sciences.  It was in Phoenix that she met her husband at a community picnic, sparking a lifelong partnership filled with love, entrepreneurial spirit, and shared dreams.  Together, they first ran a liquor store in South Phoenix, and later, established a dry cleaners in San Diego - a testament to their hard work and mutual dedication.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Monica excelled in her roles as a business woman and a loving “Tiger Mom.” With unwavering commitment, she raised her two sons, always placing family at the center of her world.  Her passion for music was equally profound—she found joy in singing and playing the piano, with a particular fondness for Chopin and Debussy, which spoke to her refined soul and creative spirit.

While Monica achieved much in her life, her deep faith was the cornerstone of her being.  A devout "woman of God," she embodied honesty, kindness, humility, and capability.  Her life was a lesson in faith, as she continuously shared the message of trust and faith in God—teaching those around her to have faith as even a small mustard seed can grow into something mighty. Her spiritual legacy shines as brightly as the love she poured into her family and friends.

While Monica never sought fame or power, her gentle strength and perceptive spiritual insight touched many lives. She possessed a rare ability to “see around corners,” anticipating challenges and offering guidance with both wisdom and compassion.  Monica is lovingly survived by her two sons, her sister, and many relatives and friends whose lives were enriched by her caring, steadfast presence.

As we celebrate Monica’s extraordinary life, we honor the legacy of a devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend—a devoted woman who lived fully, loved unconditionally, and believed in God deeply.
