Nicole DiCarlo Obituary

It is with deep sadness that our Nicole Marie DiCarlo went home to Heaven despite a courageous battle against cancer; her incredible fight was motivated by the continued love and prayers of her family, students, and friends across multiple states.

Nicole was a devout Christian woman who so badly wanted to survive her rare and aggressive adrenal cortical carcinoma in order to provide hope for others, children in particular. All through her sickness her faith fueled and inspired everyone around her. Nicole’s positivity, calm spirit, & grace provided peace that surpassed all understanding (as we read about in Philippians 4:7) for those surrounding her as she fought her hardest without complaining one bit. Her life exemplified the love of Christ undoubtedly; even in the midst or her trials she demonstrated hope, strength, & constant encouragement.

Nicole, who is predeceased by her parents, Thomas & Loretta (Young) DiCarlo of Lockport, N.Y., brother Tommy & wife Rachel DiCarlo, also of Lockport, Grandparents Tom & Marian DiCarlo and Grandmother Doreen Young, was covered in unceasing prayer, well wishes, and powerful words of healing each step of her journey. She felt the love and support from her incredible community via their gifts, meals, uplifting words, and ongoing support.

Her family also includes numerous aunts and uncles from the DiCarlo and Young families along with a multitude of cousins, friends, co-workers and both the children she taught and their grateful parents.

Nicole thoroughly enjoyed a robust, 20-year elementary teaching career in both Atlanta, GA and San Diego, CA. Her perfectly curated and aesthetically pleasing (pink & turquoise!) classrooms were full of life, excitement, and instilling the love of learning in all who stepped foot inside - from students to their parents, all the way to the staff around her at any given time. Her teaching reached far beyond the walls of the classroom and into the individual lives of each unique child she came across. Whether it was in run club, math olympia, or attending student’s extracurricular parties and activities, Nicole was a beacon of life and strong presence in her church, work, & personal communities, wherever she went.

Each student who benefitted from her guidance was encouraged to become a problem solver in all that they did. Not just in math, reading, or writing, but as an independent, growing thinker. Nicole also taught gifted and talented students and provided swim lessons to hundreds of youngsters who benefitted from her athleticism as a Division I swimmer and inductee to Lockport High School Athletic Hall of Fame. Nicole graduated with both a Bachelor and Masters in Education from University of Buffalo along with a Certification of Administration from San Diego State University.

God winked at us when Nicole’s 42nd birthday was identified as the day we’d get to host her Celebration of Life Ceremony, which will be taking place at The Church at Rancho Bernardo, CA (11740 Bernardo Plaza Court, San Diego, 92128) on Saturday, October 14th, 2023 at 1PM Pacific which will be both recorded and live streamed.

A second Celebration of Life Ceremony will be taking place at Christ Community Church in Lockport, NY (140 Genesee Street, Lockport, 14094) on Saturday, November 18th, 2023 at 3PM Eastern.
