In Loving Memory of Patricia Ann Shope
November 29, 1943 – September 11, 2025
With heavy hearts and deep love, we celebrate the life of Patricia Ann Shope—beloved wife, devoted mother, proud grandmother, and cherished friend—who passed away peacefully on September 11, 2025.
Born and raised in San Diego, California, Pat was a proud third-generation native San Diegan. She grew up in La Mesa, where her childhood was filled with sunshine, animals, and the freedom of wide-open land. Her family’s five-acre ranch near Spring Street and Highway 94 was her playground, especially dear to her for the countless hours she spent riding horses across its hills. Even as the land changed with the times, Pat never lost her love for the natural world and the beauty she saw in it every day.
A graduate of Helix High School (Class of 1961) and attendee of Mesa College, Pat lived a life rooted in care, kindness, and quiet strength. She had a special way with animals—especially horses and cats—and her love of gardening was evident in the vibrant blooms of her treasured rose garden, lovingly tended throughout the seasons.
Pat was so much more than the roles she filled, yet she fulfilled them all with grace and wholehearted devotion. As a wife of 52 years to her loving husband Richard, a mother to Matthew and Parrish, and a grandmother to five adoring grandchildren, Pat gave her love generously and without hesitation. She was always there—volunteering in school activities, showing up for causes close to her heart, or simply offering a listening ear and wise words when they were needed most.
Those who knew Pat will remember her wit, her sparkle, and her ability to make everyone around her feel seen and valued. She was elegant in both spirit and style—thoughtful, honest, and full of life. Her laughter, her stories, her quiet resilience, and her warm heart will live on in the countless memories she created with those she loved.
Pat leaves behind her beloved husband Richard Shope of Poway; her son Matthew (Carrie) Shope of Brentwood, TN; her daughter Parrish (Carl) Glass of Poway, CA; and five treasured grandchildren: Charley, Jack, and John Shope, and Harrison and Alexander Glass. She is preceded in death by her parents, Edna and Dale Underwood, whose love surely welcomed her home.
Patricia Ann Shope was deeply loved and will be missed more than words can express. Her presence was a gift—and her love, a legacy.
A private memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to be made in Pat’s memory to Alzheimer’s San Diego, an organization that reflects her enduring spirit and compassion.
