Dick Luehring passed away peacefully on June 10, 2024 with family by his side. He is at peace after a long battle with dementia. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Kerry, his sister Barbara, son Mike, daughter-in-law Krista, and granddaughter Ella. He is also survived by nieces and nephews who gave him joy.
Born in Oak Park, Illinois, along with his identical twin brother Robert, he grew up in Maywood, Ill. He attended Proviso High School and Bradley University in Peoria, Ill. He was a lifelong Sigma Chi. His military service included the Illinois National Guard and California Air National Guard.
Arriving in San Francisco with his wife in 1968, he enjoyed a 30 year career with Safeco Insurance and lived the last ten years of his career in Mercer Island, Washington. Retiring in 2000, Dick had some of the best years of his life in San Diego (Rancho Bernardo) enjoying golf, volunteering at The Friends of the Rancho Bernardo Library, rooting for the San Diego Padres, and having time to read many, many books!
He enjoyed many social groups and enjoyed sharing a glass of wine or one of his favorite IPA beers with friends.
A celebration of life will be held in August. Donations may be made in the name of Richard Luehring to The Friends of the Rancho Bernardo Library located at 17110 Bernardo Center Drive, San Diego, CA 92128. I promise it will be put to good use!
He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.
