Robert Eriksen Obituary

Robert E. Eriksen passed away on May 12, 2019 due to complications following a fall in his home.  He was 89.

Bob was born on May 6, 1930 in Crawford, Nebraska to his parents, Ernest and Lottie Eriksen. As a child, he discovered a talent for sports, and worked to become a star athlete in high school. He served in the Air Force, and survived a deadly plane crash at March Air Force Base – and the excruciating recovery that followed. Upon discharge from the Air Force, he married Alice Biemer in 1954,  and worked in the auto industry for 45 years.

Bob was an avid golfer. But he didn't just casually hit the links; he honed his skills to become a tournament-level player. In his later years, he developed a soft spot for stray cats, and provided a wonderful home for Buster and Oprah.

He cheated death and survived a plane crash, and was nothing short of "Super Uncle" in the eyes of his many nieces and nephews. He was a sharp dresser with an even sharper wit, with no room for mediocrity in his 89 years on this earth. With Bob, one thing was certain: If he was going to do something, he was going to do it well.

Throughout his life, Bob proved to be an amazing example of strength and loyalty. He knew how to stay mentally tough in times of adversity, and will be dearly missed by his loving friends and family.

Bob was predeceased by his parents, his wife, and his brother, George Eriksen (Vera). He is survived by his sister, Mary Anna Hiner (Marshall) and brother, Charles Eriksen (Mona). Survivors also include his nieces and nephews: Marcie Hanna (Joe), Keith Eriksen, Kenneth Eriksen (Patty), Robert Eriksen (Julie), Sheila Eriksen, Shauna Cotton (Steve), and Sonya Gale.  He was also well-loved by many great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Bob will be laid to rest at Miramar National Cemetery at 9:30 a.m. on May 28, 2019.  Reverend Paul B. Bagai will officiate the service.  In lieu of flowers, please donate to The Elizabeth Hospice in memory of Robert and Alice Eriksen.
