In Loving Memory
Robert Arthur "Bob" Peacock
Dr. Robert Arthur "Bob"; Peacock passed away peacefully on October 14, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born and raised in Buffalo, New York, Bob was the first in his family to attend college, earning his undergraduate degree at Hamilton College before pursuing medicine. During World War II, he served in the Navy Medical Corps, training in San Diego—the city he would call home for the rest of his life.
As a physician and research scientist, Bob made significant contributions to medical science. Throughout his career, he worked tirelessly to advance medicine and improve patient care. Bob’s early research on lipid transfer helped identify what we now know as HDL and LDL cholesterol. He was a pioneer in bringing ultrasound technology to San Diego County and taught at UCSD. He created the Palomar Medical Group, designed its office building, and built a dialysis center to serve patients in need. He launched a medical foundation, a nursing college, and was instrumental in making Palomar Hospital one of the first in the country to ban smoking.
Bob was a true renaissance man. An accomplished craftsman and artist, he created beautiful paintings and woodwork that filled his home and the homes of his family. He was a dedicated sailor who owned five sailboats over the years and was a lifetime member of the San Diego Yacht Club. In his fifties, he took up skiing and was soon conquering Black Diamond runs.
Bob became a Christian later in life, and his faith became his foundation. After retiring from medicine, he attended seminary, served as a hospital chaplain and as an elder at Emmanuel Faith Community Church in Escondido. As an elder, he used his business expertise to help plant other churches, getting them grounded with sound financial footing. As a woodworker, he
crafted pulpits for different churches.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Helen Peacock, his sister, Betty (and Pete) Emblidge, and his brother, Garry (and Andy) Peacock. Bob is survived by his wife of 70 years, Jeanne Peacock; his children, son Torrey (Selina) Peacock of Vista, CA, daughter Sharie (Tim) Justice of Poway, CA, son Gavin (Debbie) Peacock of Walnut Creek, CA, and daughter Maia (Terry) Hodge of Oceanside, CA; 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Bob Peacock lived a long and purposeful life of 98 years and will be laid to rest at a private interment at Miramar National Cemetery. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A memorial service will be held at Emmanuel Faith Community Church in Escondido on December 5th at 2:00 pm.
