Robert (Bob) Harold James, 79, of San Diego, California, passed away on May 28th, 2023 after a lengthy illness. He was born on August 16,1943 in Portland, Oregon.
Bob was a proud veteran who served in the U.S. Navy from 1962 to 1966 as a Senior Corpsman HN. During his service, he graduated from the U.S. Naval Hospital Corps School in San Diego, California in 1963. He was stationed at Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego and Oak Knoll U.S. Naval Hospital in Oakland, California assigned to the Pediatrics Wards. Bob was extremely patriotic throughout his life.
Bob met the love of his life, Diane Marcus, in CT in 1986,and they married on February 17, 1987 in Lake Tahoe, NV. Together they had one child, Eric James, now of Carlsbad CA. Through Diane, Bob also had a stepson, David Marcus.
Bob had a successful career with Bank of America for over 26 years. He started in Northern California and later moved to New York City where he met his soulmate, Diane. They later moved to San Diego where he worked as Vice President of Operations in the Private Banking Office. Bob later obtained his Real Estate License and worked at Century 21 in Poway from 1993 to 1998 and served as the Treasurer for the Poway Real Estate Association. Thereafter he worked for other various financial institutions in a variety of roles. Prior to retirement, he obtained his real estate broker license.
Bob was a man who loved his family very much and enjoyed spending time with them. He had a dry, quick-witted sense of humor and loved telling stories from his childhood living in Hawaii, Okawana, and Santa Rosa, California. As a boy, he grew up with three brothers and often told stories of those days at family gatherings. He enjoyed listening to live music, from Willie Nelson to Stevie Nicks to listening to his son's bands, Hot Gin and ZZ Top Tribute Band. He enjoyed meeting the musicians and appreciated their talent. He was at every one of his son's shows with Diane, always staying til the very end and letting everyone know that the guitarist was HIS son. He was a proud father and husband, and always made sure his family was taken care of and adored. Bob was a rare breed of person, genuine and good to the core but had a mischievous smirk any time he delivered one of his famous zesty jokes. The world was brighter with him in it.
Bob is survived by his loving wife Diane of 36 years, son Eric, his daughter-in-law Anna, stepson David Marcus brothers Jerry, Thomas (Sandy), Harry (Linda) father-in-law Frederick Sterc, one niece, Stacey James-Douglas, several nephews, Jessie, Rusty, Ricky James and his cat Leo who he developed a special bond with. He would referred to Leo as his Therapy Cat.
