Robin G. Erickson
Born: March 9th 1955
Called to Heaven: August 30th 2023
Robin was born in San Francisco to Charles and Jacqueline Rook. As a young girl she took up dancing as a favorite hobby and became quite an accomplished ballerina, performing in many venues well into adulthood, even after marriage and motherhood. Robin met her husband Dave at Granada Hills High School in Southern California, in 1971. Her family moved to Santa Barbara but they kept dating, with Dave commuting by motorcycle on weekends. Robin graduated from Dos Pueblos High School in 1972. Dave proposed in January, 1974 and they were married in Santa Barbara, March 9th, 1974, on Robin's 19th Birthday. When Dave was 21, he started doing long haul truck driving and Robin went with him on these trips. They traveled through nearly every one of the lower 48 states and 4 of the Canadian Provinces. Robin loved the travel and eagerly went with Dave until she became pregnant in 1976.
Their first son David was born May 11th 1977. While Dave was on his trips, Robin took care of David with a little help from Dave's parents, Jean and Cal and great neighbors and friends, Karen and Jeff Craft. On August 11th 1979, second son Daniel was born.
Robin was very active in their lives, and became Den Mother, Soccer Mom, Little League Team Mom, PTA Parent, Chauffer, Tudor, Etc., Etc., Etc. She deeply loved her boys and their projects and never complained. She became very good at fixing things and was not afraid to tackle broken handles, leaky faucets, running toilets and clogged drains. Dave finally got off the road in 1987 and they resumed a more normal lifestyle. There were lots of camping trips, houseboat vacations, motorcycle rides and water ski adventures, all of which gave Robin great joy. They moved to San Diego in 2001 and Robin worked alongside Dave at Gemini Moving Specialists doing accounting, and later, with Dave at Allstate Moving Systems. During this time, she kept up recreational ballet dancing and also became a certified Pilates Instructor. Dancing and the arts were her passion and with her best friend, Paula Luni, she learned Tile Painting and many other fun crafts. Robin always remained very feminine but would participate in all the "boy stuff" as well.
In 2010, at 55 years old, Robin was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's disease. She took the news in the bravest of ways and decided to live her life as best she could, and just take the challenges as they came. She loved her husband, and the boys with their expanding families brought her special happiness. Robin never complained, and with the help of family, friends and neighbors, she battled the effects of the disease for over 13 years, and passed away peacefully with Dave and Dan at her side. Robin was beautiful, both inside and out. Her smile could light up a dark room and her unassuming personality and warmth made friends out of strangers in nothing flat. For those who knew her, our hearts are broken but there is some comfort in knowing she is now dancing with the angels.
Robin leaves behind her mother Jacqueline, brothers Monte and Chuck, husband Dave, sons and their wives, David and Maggie, Dan and Renee, grandchildren Damen, Calvin, Hailee, Paisley and Deegan and many Nieces, Nephews and Inlaws. Gifts to the Alzheimer's Association may be made in Robin's name at act.alz.org
