Thane F. Elliott

Thane Elliott passed away peacefully due to cancer on August 15th, 2024, surrounded by family and loving caregivers who had become family.

Thane will be remembered as someone who always loved his family and every single furry animal he met. Thane had a true ability to give the best pets and animals knew it. He especially loved his cats Cali, Charade, Yuki, Snowball, and his daughter Rachel’s dog, Hermione. Thane also had a true passion for F1 races, Nascar races, puzzles, and airplanes. He knew every single plane by sight and could identify them from long distances.

He enjoyed a small variety of sports. From a young age, his parents taught him golf and he consistently played for over 50 years, often going golfing with his late mother after his retirement. Thane enjoyed sport shooting and had excellent aim at the range. Growing up, he also practiced judo, played Frisbee golf, and duckpin and ten-pin bowling.

Thane had an esteemed career with the Justice Department IT team for 25 years in West Virginia then retired in Austin, Texas, while visiting his dearly loved daughter, Rachel Elliott, in California often.

Thane was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Ann and Gene Elliott. He is survived by his daughter, Rachel and fiancé Joshua Hernandez, his sister Samantha Elliott Stevens and husband Johnny, his niece Lindsay Henning and husband Adam, his nephew Tom Ostertag and wife Belle, and cousins MJ Hasty, Mark Roussey and Patti Beseeker. He was supported and loved by Josh’s dear family, Maria and Moises Hernandez, and Judy Hernandez and Kevin Rodriguez. He will be dearly missed by everyone who loved him.

The family will hold a memorial service on Saturday, August 24th, 2024, at Valley Evangelical Free Church in Hemet, California at 11:30am with a lunch afterward. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any kind donations to go to The Elizabeth Hospice in San Diego.
