It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of William Christopher Mertl, known to all as "Bill", on September 27, 2024 at 4:32am after a brief illness that took him from us far too soon. Born on February 7, 1956 to Alfred and Mary Mertl (Popowicz) in Hellertown, Pennsylvania, he was one of two children, and is survived by his older brother Fred, of Florida.
One of his great passions and pastimes was fishing, any where he could find water. After serving in the Air Force for four years, he graduated with a degree in accounting, and after working for a number of years in an accounting firm, he decided to pursue his love of home remodeling and handy-man repairs and started his own company, Mertl Enterprises. He happily devoted over 25 years to his craft and skills, staying busy up until his untimely passing.
Bill had a wonderful sense of humor, always making his numerous long-time friends, family and his clients roll with laughter. He was very quick to offer help to anyone, and was ready to jump into action whenever a need would arise.
He is survived by his great love of seven years, Debbie Hatfield of Lakeside, CA, who is grieving deeply in his absence. He is additionally survived by his one biological son, Ryan Galloway of South Carolina, and three step-sons, Michael Lineback, Jr. of Indiana, Christopher Teafatiller of Tennessee, and Andrew Teafatiller of Arizona. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Christina, Kaitlyn, Jackson, and Lincoln, and two great-grandchildren, Olivia and Kiaan, as well as his cousins Diane and Kathy, both of Pennsylvania. Not to be forgotten, his beloved cat, Little One, who was his delight for 11 years, and is surely missing her "dad".
Bill's final resting place will be in the great Pacific Ocean, following an honors service to take place at Miramar National Cemetery in San Diego, California, with service date and time to be arranged in the near future.
