William A Underwood III

Bill Underwood was born on March 2, 1930.  He passed away peacefully on July 9, 2024. He was 94 years old.  Bill dedicated his professional life to the betterment of youth, serving first as a Youth Authority Probation Officer, and then finally as the San Diego Tri-County Youth Coordinator.  His commitment to his community extended beyond his career, as he became a champion of homeowners’ rights within his Homeowners Association (HOA.) Bill was also a proud veteran, marked by his service as an intelligence specialist while stationed in Alaska.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Jeri Werner Underwood, with whom he shared many joyous years.  He leaves behind his children, Tim Underwood (Charlotte Bagby), Gwen (Brian) Post, and Mary Anne Underwood.  He was a proud grandfather to Katherine Bagby Underwood (John Severa), Nick Post, Theresa Bagby Underwood, and Rachel Post.  He also leaves behind his sister Miche’ Frelin (Fred Huxley), and his cousin Jan (Martha) Underwood.

In their retirement, Bill and Jeri found immense joy in square dancing with friends, exploring their family history through genealogy, and traveling extensively across the United States and Australia.  Bill loved to work on home improvement projects, and was a very proficient home craftsman, often sharing his knowledge and expertise with his neighbors and friends.  

Bill will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.  His legacy of dedication to youth and community service, as well as his love for adventure and family, will be remembered and cherished.
